Mixed Feelings Once Again. =\
(Camp Is Over!)

i left camp the last day early
for school. (glares)
haha.

with a superduper lack of sleep.
(think i'm currently holding
a personal record of less than 15hours
over the past one week >.< )

but i have to say,
the camp was a success! =]

to record every detail that
meant something/was significant to me
would take too long,
so i'll just summarise a teensy bit
of what i'd like to express.

first of all, i'd like to thank God
for overseeing the entire production!!
it was really a great experience
preparing for this camp.
there were numerous events that
when the camp committee looked back upon,
we knew that He was there guiding us.

next, i must say that it was
awesome being a part of the committee.
i respect the camp commandants, Sean & Sal
for the effort that they put in despite
the many challenges that came, some, even,
arriving unexpected/on very short notice.
the first instance i knew the camp was God's
came in the confirmation of the camp theme verses.

psalm23:1-4
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

i'm really thankful for my fellow merrymaker Mossy
who faithfully worked with me on the games.
most of the programme turned out well
(kudos to his ability to be flexible and to modify).
he was my calm kanchiongness-suppressant
who had a wonderful servant heart.
i admire him for his high level of tolerance.

ofcourse, there's lePastor May
who gave us autonomy in decision-making.
she totally trusted us in the entire planning
and that gave me leeway to learn alot from the camp.
i hope she gets sufficient rest,
now that it's over.
she wasn't feeling too good
even before ADC2008 started.

i have to say that i am extremely proud of
the 4 flavour leaders:
-Blackcurrant's Fiona
-Raspberry's Rebecca
-Pear's Alicia
-Mandarin's Shawn
they really displayed leadership qualities
and considering how i've known them
this past 5yrs plus, i can only say
they've really grown in maturity.
handling the flavours was a tough task,
especially since we had quite a number of new friends.
but they managed to gel the flavours together
and their efforts towards encouraging camaraderie
is commendable. =]

then we have the camp committee:
-SaiKang Warriors' Dawn & Joel
thankyou for entertaining our many
last minute requests so cheerfully
despite the many other things you had to do.
-Admin's Amanda
i really appreciate the help in preparing
for registration, the on-short-notice pickup,
the constant joy that you always are.
-TummyFiller's Jomel
despite the tight schedule, the meals were all ready!
only complaint: lunch02 was hot!
but you already know that =P
-Nurse Sarah
haha, if there's anyone who's most compliant
and eager to help even though last minute
adjustments have to be made,
that will definitely be her.
thanks, for the aid you lent to the MerryMakers!
-MemoryCapturer Colin
who agreed to be our camper-cum-photographer
(with his fancy equipment and all) =P

i'm not forgetting the YoungAdults:
Daniel, Ian, Sarah, Lydia, Jesu, Thomas
who helped us in any way we required help.
they were a prayerful and understanding bunch
whose contributions to the camp
mustn't go unnoticed.

to my "Angel Joanne":
thankyou for looking out for me,
blessing me with sweets and goodies,
and many reminders to hydrate myself
throughout the camp.
i really appreciate the yummy brkfast
you lovingly prepared for me
at my thickskinned request. heh.

to my "Mortal Alison":
you're a really sweet girl!
sorry if i hadn't been as active an angel
as others were.
but you were patient and adorably unsuspecting!
(betcha didnt know it was me!) =P

other campers who brought smiles to my face:
PennyAnne: a cheerful helper
Shermaine: a joy-bringer
Martin: a cool dance choreographer
Sarah L: an endearing girl
and quite a few more!

this year's camp was really enjoyable.
and memorable.
(can't wait to get the photos!)
i'm not saying that just because
i was involved in the planning,
but seriously..

seeing how God's goodness and grace and mercies
have been over CCK's TJC,
the upcoming transition will be an easier experience.

i will definitely miss the many people
who have touched my life
even in the littlest ways.
and the new friendships
that i'd formed over the past 4days.

but i'm sure this is not the end.
(someone actually left me with parting words
that he be invited to my not-in-the-near-future wedding!)
haha, yes. that i will do! =P

well, as things come to a close,
i hope that all i am/do will just continually
bring God and others around me joy. =]

CAMP STARTS TODAY!!

ohmy.

four days of shiongness.
we're finally executing the plans
we've been working on over the past one year.

emotions: mixed.

one part of me looks forward to
having my last production with CCKTJC

yet the other's wishing the camp
wouldn't come so soon.

y'see, the last day of camp coincides
with the first day of school. (whoopdeedoo)

i'm definitely not going to skip school
but that means that i'll kinda miss the farewell.
aiyo. =\

ohwell.. it's getting late
i have to pack my bag for camp+school
and get ready to leave home in 2.5hrs time!

yikes.

nightnights everybody..

the strange soreness in my left calf muscles.

*yikes*

who would knew the 3km run in the morn
(with JeeSiang KorKor i haven't seen in months!)
(really didn't think i'd last the distance)

coupled with the camp prep dance pract
with shornn, mossy & sal
(that exerted the muscles on only one leg)

would cause
the strange soreness in my left calf muscles. >.<

BACK (super late post)

12th December 2008

*yikes* for my teenyweeny pool of readers,
i'm so sorry i didn't pre-empt ya
that i'd be away for a few days.
ANYWAY, uh.. i'm back now! (heh)

where did i go?

the moment i left the exam venue
on the last day of term (11th Dec)
i was whisked off in my papa's (company) car
to the immigration customs en route to m'sia!

that marked the beginning of a few-hours car ride
to KL to spend time with my maternal cousins.

stayed a night there before heading off to Penang.
there was a pre-arranged gathering
for ALL immediate paternal relatives (from all over) plus grandma
to have a family portrait photoshoot!

i realised that the last one we'd taken
was when i was in lower primary (?)
in this dress that i don't think was comfortable. =\

ANYWAY, the night just before the shoot,
the girls in my family panicked!
we heard that the cousins were gonna
have their hair and makeup professionally done
yet we were so unprepared for the shoot
that we didn't bring any thing
other than the clothes to wear. >.<

THANKFULLY to YiingMing JieJie
(our once-lost-but-now-found
super longtimenosee neighbour)
who arranged for her uncle to help
us look good for the portrait =]
also pitched in to beautify us girls!
(btw, the story of how YiingMing JieJie
found my family's a real interesting one,
you can ask me about it! haha =D)

well, the outcome of the professionals' work:
a (an artificially) prettified me
who felt like it was impossible to beautify further =]

i'm serious!
here're some photos to (try) prove that:

at YiingMing's Uncle's saloon

the hair!

the makeup =O

prettified, aye?
haha.

thanksgiving =]

well, i had a really nice closure to the past term.
i really thank God for how He's blessed me,
not only for the closeness within my family,
the 'conclusion' in relationship with the guy i like,
but mostly, for His tangible presence in my school life.

this past term was a challenging one.
the change in classes proved a great adjustment
yet there's a bright side to it.
i'm learning to look out more for my friends
who aren't in the same class as me anymore,
and at the same time treasure those
who're with me.

the two bunches of people i really love
are my farah-syams-justyn
and my denise-xiaoyuan-elisabeth-sylvia.
the former, i didn't realise how much
i actually love their company
until the class-split,
and the latter are my clique of girls
i must learn not to take for granted. =P

taking some old, some new modules
and having that gastronemic (if there's such a word)
presentation of lifespandevelopment module =P
required extremely good time management.
BUT HE SAW ME THROUGH! =D

mm, the greatest happifier came
on the last day of term.
i had this really important 60%-of-the-module
yet-didnt-set-aside-much-time-to-prepare-for-it test
and i spent the day before, attempting to cover
all eleven chapters until 4.30am of the test date.
(only to find out the next day
that the test covered only up till chapter 8 >.< )
well, so anyway, i woke up
after 2hrs of sleep, a pretty-groggy grouch. (haha)
and went to school in that state.
yet guess what?
despite the lack of rest and an urgency to leave school,
HE GRANTED ME MY VERY FIRST 'A'. =D
(i'm not promoting studying till late,
rest is really important.
but it's really rewarding and motivating
now that i have scored an A!)

well, i have to say that i am really blest
to have had a wonderful term of much learning and growing.
(i think i am more patient now?) haha
discovered this of myself during attachment =P

yups. haha, i look forward to enjoying the last of hols
before term starts full swing again.
and also to the repaying of great sleep debt. =)

a meaningful Deepavali afternoon

details of the above aren't much,
had a glimpse captured in
snapperhappysamantha =P

anyway, that day i kinda got to
be a friend to little Matthew.
he can sure test patience sometimes,
but he's still mostly adorable.

was heartening to see him
hard at work, packing the shoeboxes with us
although he could've easily chosen
spending the school holiday
plopped in front of the telly.

i think the uncle there was
pretty amused with Matt.

we had lunch together after that
and he held my hand voluntarily!
aww, sweet! =D

ANYWAY,
i know what i'm getting him this Christmas. =]

badminton yesterday, and today again. =]

after the camp the day before
i was SO exhausted.
had a jolly good rest
and woke up past 12noon.

haha, had a badminton game
with little Sarah
(my no-longer-tutee)
at the court near her block.

met some of her neighbours
and we played together.
um, somehow felt like
i was bullying them. =\
we played 2v2 so
i wasnt sure whether
to be lenient
or to let down whoever
i was partnered with.
ohwell. they're nice kids. =]

--
woke up late today.
haha, ohwell. =P
met guohua, florence & jeremy
for badminton at *gasp* toapayoh.
super far la.
'cos we played at an
open-air court somewhere
in between the blocks,
i thought i got lost!
thankfully i wasn't.
and it turned out that
i wasn't the latest to arrive. =P

we played 1v1 & 2v2
'twas fun, except
i kinda pity whoever
who got partnered with me. >.<
i haven't recovered
from camp, see. *yikes*

after quite a few hours,
we showered up
and had lunch at central!
nice yongtaufoo. =]

next up was ICECREAM.
haha, never knew there was
DARKCHOC flavour. =P
i tried that, amongst
durian (mmM-MMMmmmm),
greentea (wow, authentic!)
and what i ordered for myself:
my ultimate favourite
RUM 'N' RAISIN.

heavenly~ =D

SHS Mentorship
Physically&Mentally-Draining-Out-To-Kill-You
Training Camp.
6th-8thOctober

day1 [1517hrs]
the skies are grey, threatening to rain as i await the arrival of 1700hrs when the camp starts. to be honest, i do not know what to expect. when i was signed up for it, i had absolutely no clue what it entailed. 'twas only during the briefing did i realise that being enrolled for this camp automatically commits me as an OGL-to-be for next year's freshmen orientation. well, not a whoop-de-do feeling, somehow. whilst it's an honour to be appointed by my mentor to attend the camp, i'm not exactly sure of my ability to make the commitment now. looking back on last semester's results doesn't really give me a sense of satisfaction. but whilst i know i'm not exactly ready for the coming semester, i am determined that when it starts, i'm going to begin a more disciplined time schedule that balances studies, work and play.
dear God, please grant me wisdom to plan my time well, strength & joy to pull through
this camp, and Sean guidance & protection as he makes his way to Wallaby.

day2
WARFARIN YEAARGH!!! haha, my prayer was really answered. i found myself in a group that was really enjoyable. azmihisshiss, sherilwoofwoof, masitameowmeow, calistamehmehh, euniceroarroar, xueyibloopbloop, samanthachikchak, talminquackquack, hanliangmoomoo, weijianoinkoink, martincheepcheep, fanglongcoocoo. and not forgetting seniors joey and anuar. =]
to achieve that, we went through a whole lot of physically strenuous exercises (recall: horrible endurancechallenge) that bonded the team. but there were games as well, such as the plane flying competition, 9station relay, etc.
i just can't remember all the things we learnt, but here's a few pointers noted:
leadership - CareAdventurousRespectability/esponsibilityExcellence.
goalsetting - MeasurableAudaciousD______(ohno, i forgot. someone please remind me!).
other friends made today: vicky, tania, alex, jeremy (from PT), azrin (from NR) =]
current group position: 6th place (out of 6 teams)

day3
i slept at 0145hrs today, to wake at 0400hrs. ugh. bunk standardisation and water parade began the day, then a 3hr 7station game which had us running all over the school. we got the bonus question correct! woohoo~ =D
after all teams came back, we had verylatebreakfast and got ready to leave camp. it was really nice to have the team affirming what encouraged them over the past 2days, and it was really a pity that the camp had to come to an end when we were just starting to get along comfortably.
well, we concluded the camp triumphant with a group score of 80+points, 4th place.
achieved our goal. =]

Thursday, September 25, 2008

fulfilling afternoon. =]

had lunch with Evangeline,
a dear friend made during NDP2002
as we marched together
in the Girls' Brigade contingent.

six years later
and we're still in touch!
haha, it's always so encouraging
meeting up with her
'cos i feel real comfortable
sharing with her,
even if we meet up
only once in a while.

feeling refreshed. =]

working, working, working!

i have been replying emails
and doing planning for stuff
and cleaning the house
on top of unpacking the bags
and tidying the room
and.. and..

o0oh, by the way,
the keyboard is half-squeakyclean!
while damp-dusting the desktop
i thought that
it was time the keyboard
be rid of all dustbunnies.

so i readied myself
with the cloth
and a toothbrush!
and painstakingly scrubbed
all 5 exposed surfaces of each key.

ugh. gross.
it took really long,
and the dust and stuff
that fell out of the keyboard
made me really queasy.
SO i only did half. >.<

ANYWAY,
my exam results are out!
and i really wanna thank God
for blessing me with my grades. *beams*
a gpa of 3.0, can you believe that!

yes, i know it's not spectacular,
but it's not too bad
for a first attempt, i think?
will definitely be
doubling efforts for the next semester. =]

BACK!!
and exhausted.

checked my work email
and *gasp*
42 new emails. >.<
and 35 of them are related
to my commsvc event. *yikes*
another 5+ odd, to opss event
and again 5+ odd to ccktjc ADC!

so much to do, now that i'm back.
but firstly, i must UNPACK.

-out-

unavailable!

hello dear peeps,
all work/planning/emails
will be put on hold
for the next week or so.
will be contactable once again
on the 23rd of september
but that is NO excuse to
flood me, okayyyy!
do still keep me updated
for important stuff, ya?
it's just that i'll check
inboxes&mailboxes
when i'm back.
thankyousoverymuch!

Monday, September 08, 2008

things on my plate at the moment.

- planning for holiday trip
- planning for saotsc opss event
- planning for saotsc commsvc event
- planning for ccktjc ADC

haha. i think i'm biased. =P

snapsnapsnap-- woohoo!

compilation of an online photosite
with shutterfly is in the works now!
(contemplated multiply but
it seems hard to use! >.<)

got LOADSA photos in my harddisk
and i've really gotta share it.

the site'll hold raw photos, mainly.
if i happen to do any editing
it'd be shared too, though. =]

in the meantime,
whatever's up is up here! =]

http://stoicallife.shutterfly.com/

have been MIA for a while,
and will be again in a week's time.. =O

the second week of the holidays
came and went so fast,
it's now the third! >.<
how did i spend the time?

well, i went to school on tues!
haha, can you believe it?
'twas to study, actually.
and play sports, definitely.
however things weren't exactly as planned.

ended up planning for a trip to Aus!
(which explains why i'm gonna be
very uncontactable next week)
haha, while that sounds like
something to rejoice over,
i have yet to be excited about it. =\

--i mean, getting me to plan routes
and use maps for directions is one thing
(which i think i did well,
when my family took our last holiday.
the sisters did the planning,
i helped the driver with the roads.)

but to PLAN THE ENTIRE TRIP?!!
you've got to be kidding me. =X
i think i know my strengths,
and it's not exactly planning where to go.
goodness, i can barely decide
what to have for meals,
let alone what mummy&i
will do for a whole week.

YIKES.
well, turns out that my mum's serious.
she's totally giving me the liberty
to decide where to go, how to get there,
what to eat, (where to shop?)
and stuff.

but thankfullyandverygratefully,
with the help of daddy
(thankYOUsomuch),
the basic stuff such as
where to stay is settled.
first 3days at a hotel,
rest of the trip at a friend's place.

all i have to do now is to
plan what to do each day.
so i think i have no excuse
not to do a good job. yups!

still, this is something i'd
never've thought that i'd do.
still uncertain about lotsa stuff.
oh, well.
thankGod for my assets (OTterminology)
in map-reading. haha. =D

--

o0okayy. how did i get there again?
anyway, this post was mainly supposed
to be about what i did, not what i'm gonna do. =P

well, the latter part of the week
that i was MIA,
i was attending a WorshipRetreat.
it was a stay-over event
from thursday-saturday,
and i had a really great time.

the guestspeaker flew in
TWENTYTHREE HOURS
from USA to come share with us.
Dr Pat McKinstry is an inspiring
God-honouring woman.
Her personal prayer/worship life
really manifests in her public life.
it's kinda hard to explain how
but when you meet her,
you'll know how sensitive she is
to the HolySpirit. =]

"praise - it's not something i do. it's my life."
how true that should be!

on the first night of session,
we learnt what it takes to be
a true worshipper.
timeliness, rightattitude,
respectingleadership, faithfulness,
expectancy&anticipation,
preparation, layingasideone'splans..
just some of the key things to note.

she also shared with us
instances in her life
which exemplified
the power of prayer
that comes with
holy boldness.
all i can say is that
she really inspires me to
learn to use my tongue
for God's purposes.

and then she prayed for
most of those at that session.
before she came round to me,
i was praying and thinking about
certain things in my heart.
then when she laid hands on me,
i just felt the presence of
the Holy Spirit rest upon me.

she prayed in tongues
and God used her to really
encourage me and uplift my spirit.
she told me to
get my pen and paper ready.
and that God would give me
a new song that very night.

when i heard that, i was really edified.
praising&thanking the Lord,
i claimed His promise
and held Him to His word.

you see,
songwriting was the issue
that i was pondering over
in my heart before she prayed for me!
God's amazing, aye? =]

that night i literally held onto
my pen and notebook
and kept praying for the new song.
but God did not allow the song to come
the same way the first two did.

you see, the two songs God gave me
prior to this night, came this way:
He'd give me the passage from the Bible
where the lyrics'd come from
then after with somequite a bit of
help from thomas, the music'd flow.
but this time,
the tune to the first two lines came first.
and slowly but surely,
the whole song was birthed.
it was an amazing experience.

to be able to tangibly know
that i am on God's mind,
not just a number (possibly?)
on a growing/diminishing list,
--and that He honours His word--
is simply awesome.

and also, even at a time
where changes in my life
are about to take place
i can take comfort in the fact that
God is faithful. =]

hope the lyrics from Psalms40
inspires some and touches others.
as it has done for me.

day of success, surprises and so much fun!

two events today that make up the title.

today was the angel-mortal reveal party!
and the art project was a success!
was so worried that my mortal
wouldn't like the shirt that i painted for her
but it turns out that she did!
woohoo~

when my angel came up to me
during the reveal, i was totally not prepared!
i initially had someone in mind,
so was looking out for her, THEN..
surprise, surprise!
i got a boy. heh.
hmm, come to think of it,
he did put a lot of effort
in the gifts for me,
contrary to my initial impression
of an absent angel. =P

anyway, the food brought was not bad at all!
my class brought potato salad, fruits, jelly.
other classes did chocolateystuff, nuggets,
pandancake, potatowedges, crisps, drink, etc.
yumyum, overate.

--

i caught a wheelchair basketball match
and it was so much fun!!
greatbritain was playing southafrica.
the two teams came to s'pore
to acclimatize before the paralympics
in beijing take place.
what a privilege to see them play. =]

the atmosphere of the sportshall was amazing.
held at the unitedworldcollege,
there were many students who came to watch.
the cheers of encouragement for southafrica
were strong, however it seemed that
whoops of joy were heard from the same
crowd behind me each time greatbritain scored.

well, i rendered my shouts for southafrica.
and although they didn't win,
i admire the way the captain of the team played.
some members were rowdy,
even though they're on wheelchairs!
bumping into opponents
and even 'locking' others' wheelchairs
by strategically interlocking the footplates
of their chairs with the wheels of others'!

but number7 was mostly calm.
he played well, keeping his eyes
on the ball and on his teammates.
which was a contrast to some players
who were expending more energy
blocking competitors' paths.

i'm glad i went for the match today.
i learnt more of how the game is played,
the meanings of the fancy actions referees/umpires
made to denote certain types of fouls.
i got to see the importance of
directing your attention on the right
things/people during the match,
note to self: must practice that the next time i play.
i also had the opportunity to witness
the grace and swiftness of movement
by the players on the court.
strength in the arms i don't have!
but most of all, i realise
how privileged i am. to be able-bodied.

wow.

HAPPY(okayla.)HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! =D

okay, so this was what i'd planned
would take place on my birthday:
- wake, shower up, meet classmates!
- spend the morning-> afternoon
hanging out with them, even lunch.
- head back home, tutoring at 4pm
- end at 6pm, have a nice dinner
- return home before 9
- have sweethappy memories..

BUT
IT WAS NOT TO BE.
haha. =P

first of all, my dinnerdate
postponed the meeting.
saddd.

then the night before THE day,
i texted my classrep if we were meeting
and she totally ignored my message!!!!

received a buzz from sylvia instead
to meet at around 3.20pm
on THE day before my tutoring.
though it was a disappointment
that instead of hanging out,
i'd just, like, "NAHH, here you go,"
receive a gift and go back home,
i thought that it was okay, i guess.

so i agreed lastminute to a lunch
with another coursemate of mine
to meet at westmall's pastamania!
yumyum. =D

we then walked around
(too full for swensen's dessert)
to buy stuff from shops i like.
wah, felt superrich
though i really wasn't.
heh. the banes of using NETS.

got fabric paints and stick dyes
from popular.
hehe, the art project i'm
currently working on...
whee~

got a CD (on impulse!!)
from hallmark.
i just seriously bought
what was playing overhead.
haha.

got a birthdaygift for my daddy.
his' the next in the family
to be celebrated!
[since i doubt he'll read this:]
i got him two tabletennisbats
and a box of tabletennisballs.
would be nice to have
a game with him someday.

almost bought hairsoap.
don't know why, just felt like it. >.<
thankfully i didn't.
guess, the ego was overriding the id.

oh, ego, where were you during
all the above purchases?
haha. =P

last purchase, a gift for me:
a black tanktop! *beams*
haha, dearLaLa was commenting
that i need to get the basics!
hehe.

then i rushed back home to
help my sister with something

and then sylvia texted to say
she'd arrived below my block.

so i hurried down to meet her
expecting to see her holding
a paperbag of present for me
but NOOOOOO....
in her hand was just a bunch
of... plastic bags??
y'know, those big
transluscent green ones
that hdb occupants
receive in a bid to
encourage recycling?

so i was: hmmm?

then she folded the bags
and blindfolded me.
well, actually 'cos the bags
were many and were big
she ended up
masking close to my entire face.
haha.

and let me on trail
to i-don't-know-where.
only sensory inputs
were sounds of cars passing by
SO WE WERE WALKING BY
THE ROADSIDE WITH ME
LOOKING SILLY LIKE THAT?!!
and her 'ngiapp' and 'warmth'.
haha, flashback to when we were
learning Mobility with a VI client.

then she got lost.
BUT found her way again,
and we met elisabeth!
well, at least, i heard elisabeth.

they kinda got me into a car
(it sounded like a taxi)
but not before bumping
my nose into the side of the door.

and i heard voices of
xiaoyuan and tricia as well.
"hmm, this will be interesting,"
i thought to myself.

they refused to tell me
where we were going,
so i gave up asking
and just chatted as
normally as i could.
note: i was still blindfolded. (?!!)

then it got quiet
the vehicle stopped.
the door opened.
i somehow got out?

someone grabbed from behind
and tied my hands together
and tied my legs together.

totally freaking me out now.
not sure
whether
to laugh
or to cry.

and then there was a
total change in atmosphere.
i was hauled up
onto what seemed like
another vehicle.
knocked my head against something
but the confusion proved
a damper to the ouch.

in the van
i knew there was someone behind me
a bunch of others beside me.
there were sounds of sobbing
coming from my left
and noises of banging on
the sides of the vehicle
coming from all around.

a male voice rang out
to shut up the wailers.
i wasn't one of them.

i sat at my corner
shivering
with my hands behind my back.
i tried not to roll about
i tried to balance
against the movements of the van
under the control of
a seemingly terrible driver.

a monologue of the
fate of all victims took place.
suggesting that we'd
be shipped to m'sia.

i kept quiet.
to struggle would be unintelligent.
i kept still.
only to be poked at
to check if i was alive
and viable for sale.

a few times the wailers would start.
and be silenced again.

there were sounds of spitting
and snips of a pair of scissors
coming dangerously close
to my ear.
from the left, a sharpening of knife.

it was a long
and uncomfortable ride.

i teared,
but no one could see under the mask.

i dreaded when the van would stop.
not knowing what would happen next.

yet the time came.
the vehicle started reversing.
bleeps accompanied the backward motion.

the door railed open.
light flooded the van,
piercing through the blindfold even.

i was dragged along my bum
towards the edge of the van,
and pushed off onto the ground.

my knees made raw contact with
the rough concrete slabs making up
the floor of the carpark.
the impact of falling onto my knees
jerked out tears
and i burst into sobs.

there was a moment of else silence
and even i waited
for the next thing to happen.

then the blindfold was removed
and in front of me
lay a birthdaycake and a present.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

haha.

i think i was crying
so elisabeth lent me her shoulder.
i said thankyou
haha, think i was still in a daze.

then everyone else started
to reveal their faces.
there was (in order of appearance)
elisabeth, tricia, sylvia, denise,
jonathan, xiaoyuan, justyn.

haha. you buncha sneakyfellas!

i remember asking in the van
who there was
and they insistedthat
pooja was driving and
syams couldn't speak
because there's a surprise. >.<

thanks, ah... =P

anyway, so we started chatting
as we sat out on the ground
beside the van.

turns out that there was
only one vehicle
but 'cos the backdoors open via hinge
and the sidedoors open via sliding,
it seemed that i was transferred from
one vehicle to another.

the first checkpoint where they
walked me to was actually the
coffeeshop area 4-5 roads
away from my place! >.<
sylvia must've looked real silly
walking beside a blindfolded me.
haha, thankfully i was spared. =D

then the next destination was actually
some carpark at hillview, bukit timah.
whoa. far, aye?

finally, i found myself at another carpark
beside the bukit batok nature reserve.
so many places in less than halfanhour.
what an adventure!

i really appreciate the planning and
all the arrangements to my bday celebrations.
it turns out that they sneakily
engaged my sister's help!!

haha, it was a real surprise
and in some sense,
it was a fun experience.

i imagined that the stuff
i went through was kinda like,
persecution?
maybe the experience would
be good preparation
for the future? hmm..

haha, but anyway,
i really like the presents!!
got a really long chunky necklace
and a black long-sleeved sweater.
girlystuff.
SWEET!!!

haha.
thankyou
dearFarah, sylvia, xiaoyuan,
denise, tricia, jonathan, syams,
elisabeth (who actually wanted to
leave me tied&blindfolded somewhere
with just the cake&gift in front of me)
and justyn (who was the voice
behind all the mental torture).

haha, now have some scrapes on the knee
to proudly say that this is the memorablest
birthday ever!

happybirthday~ =]

Monday, August 25, 2008

got a new phone!

queued up for 3hours to get it.
AND ITS NOT EVEN THE iPHONE!!
haha.
an old model, but i like it. =D

Sunday, August 24, 2008

CHOPPED.

haha. my hair, that is.
looks.. like a kids' now.
haha. oh, well.
one more month before
school starts so i guess
its not TOO bad, aye?

hanging out with my babes!
minus rox.. =(

so excited to see them again!!!

met at orchard mrt
walked to kinokunia
walked to other places in orchard
that i do not know how to get to
if i had to make my way there again. =P

oh! then we headed to wheelock place
where we were deciding between
eating sakaesushi or big-O
and the latter won.

after that we walked around
looking for a decent hp pouch
couldnt find what we were looking for
but i bought two prettybangles
for my sisters! haha.

then Mel had to leave =(
she was going to attend the
summer japanese festival!
cool, aye?
i've heard quite a bit about it
her and some other sec schmates
who used to attend.

anyway, after that dearlinda and lala
brought me shopping!!!
haha, trying to find girlystuff for me. =P

then they found some pretty tops
for me to try on.

haha, of those i tried,
i liked two of them.
one was a tube-like blouse
with a cute ribbon thing on the front.
and the second was a long spag blouse
that had a sporty look.

eventually chose the latter.
the first one was too shameshame!!
but 'twas a pretty one. =]

it's a pity that rox couldnt join us today.
hopefully next time ba?

a splendid way to celebrate.

he surprised my family
-and me included-
when he asked my mum
for permission to take me out.

he knew the event'd end late
so he asked if i could be sent home
by 11:30pm the latest.
at his sincerity, i believe,
mummy agreed.

he picked me up from home,
me all dressed up by my sister
(no, without makeup, thankyou.)
and we had dinner at pastamania.

made our way to cityhall
for reasons he still didn't
want to reveal to me.
got squished up in a huge crowd
and we ended up at the marinabay.

YES. he'd brought me to
see the fireworks. =]
and it was.. splendid. *beams*
(pity, i didn't bring a camera)

really didn't expect it,
was a very pleasant surprise.

and the most important thing:
he sent me home on time. =P

exams are over~

woohoo! haha.
seems like it hasn't kicked in?
not really, come to think of it..
on thursday after our last paper
it was like YEAHHHHH!!

we were all revved up to hang out
(despite the 1hrplus debrief)
and so let loose, we did.

had lunch at koufu in school
then the whole troop of us
66.6666666666% of the class
farah, syams, justyn,
denise, xiaoyuan, sylvia,
xueyi, tricia, shuhui,
xinling, jonathan & me
made our way towards
the jurong entertainment centre
for ICESKATINGGGG!!!
haha.

we had truckloads of fun!
at first there was some apprehension
that we'd spend
the whole two hours plus
clinging onto the sides of the rink
but it wasn't too long
before most of us were able
to wobble on the ice
away from the sides.

oh, special mention:
farah and i were superamused
by justyn's first attempt on ice!
haha, the minuspoint about
being so tall is that you have
a higher CG and that equates
to extra wobbliness! =P

we did silly things
like forming a 12-people train
with jon/xyuan leading
(they're the better skaters).
but the train broke into two
a few times
'cos it was too long.
(got reprimanded by someone
that we cannot hold more than
two people's hands)
--"but (in protest)...
we only held the waist of
one person in front of us!"
aiyoh, so cheeky. =P

also tried racing on the ice!
basically it was some kinda relay
but everyone from the first line
ended up only tapping dearbeaver.
it was like, huh?
haha.
i wonder if she knew what
the rest were up to. =P

another sillything we did:
getting the tallman
to stand with feet apart
and jon to try skate through.
it was hilarious!
mostly because the attempts
were somewhat.. unsuccessful? >.<

it was real fun,
a good destressor after the exams.

the happiest thing:
mainly, just revelling
in the company
of such great friends.

am blessed. =]

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

brought a smile to my face~

hey sam! how's your week?
hope everything has been
going well for you!
haven't seen or
talked to you for awhile. ):
stay strong throughout
the week! *big hugs*

HAPPY [EARLY] BIRTHDAY TO ME~

celebrated my birthday early.
today, in fact.

reason being,
it's the only available time
before Daddy goes overseas.

as usual, we went to
our favourite place;
the place we go to
each time it's anyone's birthday.

indulged the company
of my most lovedones.

only regret:
i'm bloated.
haha. =P

FAMILY NIGHT.

finally caught THE DARK KNIGHT.

rushing from home,
my sis and i made our way to JP.

parents and other sibling
were coming from another direction,
so we arranged to meet there.

really thank God that
we managed to book/buy
the tickets early online.

we arrived at JP just 25minutes
before the show started,
it was full house at the cinema!

hmm, hasn't the show been out
for quite some time?

anyway, we bought food first.
nachos, icelemontea, popcorn.
we entered the theatre
and i enjoyed the privilege
of sitting in the middle of my family.
it was(left-->right):
parent,parent,me,sibling,sibling.

the show was SCARY.
should've brought my pillow/bolstee
or at least a sweater to cover my eyes
when it got frightening.
but i didn't. >.<
totally didn't help
that i needed to pee. =\
aiyoh.

but other than those frighteningmoments,
the movie was really cool.

only understood the title
nearning the end.

on the car ride back,
my family kinda discussed
the stuff we understood from the show.
something not done before?
as far back as i recall,
this is the FIRST movie
we've watched as a family!

it's usually just
Mummy&theGirls
or Mummy&aSibling
or Mummy&Daddy
or Daddy&aSibling.
so this is really precious.

i'm not sure if we'll do this more often,
but i'm sure that today is one day
that i'll treasure. <33

I LOVE MY FAMILY. =]]

THE COMPETITION.

well, actually today's title
should read:
THE COMPETITION?

with the girls.
it was a bright sunny day
and i was geared up
for a good time of sports.
(felt the need to exercise,
getting BIT flabby again.)
heh.

well, despite living
just fifteen minutes from SP
where the competition was held,
I ARRIVED LATE.
aiyoh. >.<

anyway...
turned out that
what 教练 predicted came true.
at our last training before the comp,
he mentally prepped us
not to expect too much.

and well, when we arrived,
we found that the only campus(es)
that had teams represented was NYP.
aiyoh.

thankfully we had two teams.
otherwise it'd be a disaster.
(heh, exaggerating..)

so we played amongst ourselves
in the groupings pre-assigned.
two other CCC people came
and since it was insufficient
to form another team,
they just joined a team each.

and we had fun.

as 教练 said:
"friends off the court,
competitors on the court"
-or something like that..

so we really played our best
despite the circumstances.

i now have a slight tan, so
today wasn't at all a waste?

haha.

more importantly,
i got to know more girls

and learnt to appreciate
the different strengths of
the members on each team.
(and i felt exercised!)

i really enjoyed myself.

thoughts to end with:
will we carry on having
CaptainsBall games after LM?

--

stuff at the guys' side.
the guys played excellently well!
won all the matches
until the final four.
then the two NYP guys team
had to compete with each other.
hmm..

i guess it was fair
otherwise it would end up
NYP v NYP in the finals, aye?

so obviously NYP made it to the finals.

the opponent: TP.
and the guys played hard.

it was a really intense match,
a game of rollercoaster morale.

TP scored early
NYP then raised their defence.
NYP scored.
the morale was boosted.

TP scored again,
i don't think i'm biased;
it seemed purely luck.
NYP played harder.
NYP levelled the playing ground.

TP scored again,
a nice one, at that.

and then
just when no one expected it,
the referee blew the whistle.

it was really an intense match.
but both sides played well.

am proud of the guys
for their hardwork and sportsmanship.

and it's now time for all of us
to STUDY.

i miss MW at SA.

at SAJC, we used to have
daily MorningWorship at LT2.
with just a guitar, and lyrics,
we'd worship and pray for
things of concern.
awesome way to start the day.

and it's cool that some people
at NYPCCC have initiated MW too.
it's weekly (fridays) at 8am
and we meet at BlkE.

although it's just an hour
of worship and short sharing,
it's a good time of refreshing.

we've had about 4-5 MWs so far?
and today was differentspecial.

in light of the 2008 BeiJing Olympics,
we had worship in mandarin!

here's a song i learnt
that i was really encouraged by.

point to note:
it must really have touched me,
considering my chinese is like, bleah.

and um, i'll try to translate it
(not word-for-word, though)
to the bestest i can..

祷告(Pray)
Verse
祷告因为我渺小
祷告因为我知道我需要
明瞭你心意对我重要

祷告已假装不了
祷告因为你的爱我需要
你关怀 我走过的你都明白

Chorus
有些事我只想要对你说
因你比任何人都爱我
痛苦从眼中流下
我知道你为我檫

在早晨我也要来对你说
主耶稣今天我为你活
所需要的力量你天天赐给我
你恩典够我用

the song is entitled: Pray
the verse speaks of recognising
the need for prayer.
because I'm not self-sufficient,
because I know I need to,
understanding that the plans
God has for me are important.

it then goes on to say that
prayer is something that cannot be feigned,
pray recognises the need for God's love.
because He cares for me
and knows what I go through.

the chorus captures bits of
what the author feels.
he mentions that there are some things
he would like to tell God,
because God knows him
better than anyone else.
God wipes away
all sorrow expressed in tears.

the first thing in the morning,
he also wants to acknowledge
that he lives for God.
because the strength required
is daily provided by Him.
and it concludes with this:
"Your grace is sufficient for me."

--

the original lyrics of the song
is really beautiful.
unfortunately i am unable
to fully capture its meaning
after attempted translation.

but, ya..
gonna try memorise the lyrics!
maybe could introduce it to
the QuietTime girls?
hehe.

inspired.

birthday plans on the way~

wanna watch a movie with my family.
妹妹 picked out The Dark Knight.
姐姐 totally insisted that it's not scary.
well, if they want to.
haha.
kidding la!

well, i am aware that
it may get nightmare-inducing,
but my curiosity is piqued.
shall arm myself with a good babybolster
to squeeze when it gets frightening.
NO MORE catching people beside me
unaware by my sudden pinching..! >.<

secondly, the family tradition of dinner together.
we'll be going to the usual place.
haha, i'm not too picky so i'm oaky with it.
bit far, though. heh.
okayokay, i'm bit picky with distance.
oh, well. =P

can't believe i'm hitting the BIG TWO-OHHHH. >.<

two things to consider (after the exams)

to buy (a new handphone) or not to buy?
that is the question.
--well, not really.
the question is: which phone to buy?
my current one is totally dying out on me.
turning itself off whenever it pleases,
not waking me up when i've set FIVE alarms,
and totally making me send double messages.
ugh.
haha.

to chop (off some hair) or not to chop?
that is the question.
--well, not really.
the question is: how much to chop?
i definitely want to cut it.
have a change in hairstyle!
i do admit that it would make me
more vulnerable to badhairdays
which i would easily avoid
by tying long hair up..
BUT aiyah.
a change would be nice, aye?
haha.
we'll see..

Friday, August 01, 2008

sense of achievement for sheefoo/masterwooguay?

haha.
played tabletennis after lessons today.
i think i improved from the last time,
that kinda pleased sheefoo?
but i was enjoying myself too,
so that was nice. =]

i got to practise using forehand.
although it took some time,
the method that sheefoo adopted
to coach me worked, i think.
i initially quipped that credit goes to
having a good rest the night before
but i have to admit that
to a certain extent,
the extra patience that sheefoo
had when teaching
must've boosted my morale?
ya. haha.

didnt get to play squash today,
but i got to kick some soccer!
haha.
cool, aye?
it was just bits of kicking around
and i scored a goal!
the people we played with
were really friendly
and that was fun.
whee~

happyhappy
supertired
evening.

and i'm now off
to sleep.
Zzz. -.-

LM and training.

last LM for the semester,
we had the AGM,
教练jiaxian is the current president!
haha.
awesome, but i still prefer
to call him 教练 rather than..
mr president?
haha. nahhh..
he doesn't ask to be called that la.

--

then we had captainsball training!
aiyoh.
warm ups - running. from one line
on the basketball court to another.
can't remember what that's called,
but it really warmed us up. =X
next up was this dance-like thing
to train our footwork.
um, heh.
an accompanying benefit
to this gruelling exercise
is that i think i may have a
trim waist if i carry on practicing.
haha.

then we learnt defense moves
and 'tackles'.
and we played a match.
i can't remember the score
but it was really a good time
for us to use the skills we learnt!
after a while,
they guys needed the court,
so we ended up racing
two by two,
the second to return
to do 5 pushups.
but we did it together eventually
so it was just like training.
haha.

we then watched the guys play.
it was kinda cool, i think some of them
are really good, but that could
just be due to my limited exposure
to good players. heh.
教练 then did a little analysis
of some of the captainsball team.
he mentioned that
so and so is good at defending,
so and so is good at scoring,
and then it came to me.

"she ah? okay la..
can say quite fast la..
(pride swells)
just that no balance la."
(and comes before a fall.)
haha.

but i promise i'll train
and get better!
well, actually there isnt
much time to train,
but i'll do my best!
promise. =D

BLESSED NINETEENTH, DENISE!!

thankyou for cheerfully being
ot0802's responsibleclass rep!
haha.

operation surprise: SUCCESS!
the usual bunch of girls organised
a littlebirthday celebration,
secretly involving theWHOLE class
and even herSISTER
(and mine) behind her back!
haha.

half the class went out to
purchase her present,
two classmates even left heralone
(when they usually
take the same train all the way)!
we got her sister to help us check if
she would be home in the afternoon.
we arranged for my sister to
call her and make a pretend
meet-up arrangement!
and despite so many possible
openings for her to get suspicious
she totally didn't suspect ANYTHING la!
aiyoh.
are we good or what? =P
haha.

anyway, i hope she had a
really enjoyable and meaningful
birthday this year.
(like the card we made?)
haha.

have a blessed birthday, girl. =]

CCK Anniversary!

THANKYOU SYLVIA FOR COMING!!
so glad that she could join us.
she sat at the same table as me
and got to know some of my friends
including Sean Loke and May Loke.
distant relatives?
haha. =P

we both wore black, white
and a dash of colour,
following the colour theme
that my mummy chose for the family.

o0oh, i hope you enjoyed the dance!
ofcourse, it wasn't exceptionally spectacular,
however, it was the best performance
compared to all other practices/rehearsals!
yups.

the gift we got him.

anyway, hope he likes it!

ugh - training.

there's a Inter-campus Crusade
Girls CaptainsBall Competition
coming up on 9thAugust.

i'm participating.
we've only 3wks to prepare for it.
first training was yesterday.
aiyoh. >.<

教练JiaXian
+
8 unfitGirls
=
well, um...

haha, actually it wasn't that bad.

started training session close to 7pm,
warmed up with 5 rounds around
half the bball court. haha.
broke into two teams of four,
played 2games of firsttoscore5points.
thankfully 教练 didn't implement
the loser run 10rounds thing.
or we'd DIE. (haha, exaggerating)

next up was ball passing practice.
based on our performance,
we were then given tips on
gettingourteammates'attention,
ballhandling, courtmanagement..

i found it challenging implementing
the stuff taught.
(hopefully i'll be able to utilise
the stuff taught in tomorrow's class' game.)

played manymore sets of scoring 5points
until we were really exhausted,
THEN
教练 threw us a bomb. >.<

"partner yourselves,
see the semicircle?
we're going to play
catching within the area."

Yearrgh!!
haha.

it was in the format of
i tag you, then i run
while you try to catch me.

aiyoh.
total killer.

well, we managed it somehow
whether attempting to look like
we're running.
or walking most of the way.
heh.

then came the peptalk.

教练 led us to discuss the game,
personal commitment levels
on the court.
(we used it as an opportunity
to kinda whine at his training)

but well,
the entire session was really
one where i feel we've drawn closer.
yups.

looking forward for the next one!
am SO gonna bring my camera.

capture memories~
教练jiaxian.
tricia, jinping, rachel, elisabeth,
gloria, elisabeth, trina, me.

happybirthdaymuimui! =D

dinner at SeoulGarden yesterday,
unhealthy food yet, once in a long time:
forgivable.

point to note:
nice to have a change in
familybirthdaycelebrationeatingplace.
(5timesayear at sakurainternational,
we needed to taste better - or worse -
to appreciate what we have).

ate lots. too much, if you ask me.
(thus i NEED tabletennis tomorrow.)

but i'm sure that muimui enjoyed herself.

found herself a 眼糖 whom she spent
quite some time ogling over.
haha.

well, he's not TOO bad looking
but nor is he dropdeadgorgeous.
perhaps she was captivated by his
politeness and excellent customerservice.

eventually after the parents left
the girls to get more dessert,
we started getting shutterhappy.

i intelligently decided to get a shot
of her and "the boyboy". haha.

so with her in tow,
i walked up to the guy,
whose nametag read "Stun".
i smiled,
and mentioned that
she'd like a photo with him.
heyy, he said okay!

only to turn around
and find her gone..!
she practically RAN out of the restaurant
and i totally embarrassed myself.
ugh.

apologised a few times
to the background laughter
of the table that i was standing next to. >.<

and quickly left.

bleah.
kinda regret
not taking a photo of him after all.
but oh, well.

interesting experience
that i doubt would repeat.

but anyway,
one thing i've decided:
NOT going back there for my bday
(which is the next to arrive!). =]

summary of the week!

nothing much, really.

BUT
noteworthy:

wednesday:
the cafe E.
The Handicap Lot played.
really enjoyed the atmosphere,
the music, the company.
they sang mainly songs about Love,
some familiar, some new.
got to share stuff about love
and being in relationships.

friday:
basketball, tabletennis
and badminton before school,
tabletennis after school.
kinda disappointed that the shoulder
prevented me from squash,
but tabletennis with two pros
helped me.. improve?
i hope! haha.

saturday:
tutoring was enjoyable,
especially since she's now
intrinsicly motivated.
had band pract which was fun.
cell in the evening,
dinner at PS' MosBurger.
totally embarrassed CGWY
when we sang happybirthday.
home, rested.

sunday:
felt really nervous to lead the team
in first song on the bass.
was very simple, but still... haha.
my first time!
think overall it was okay,
considering i picked it up recently.
well, still not considered having
'picked it up' yet.
haven't had lessons for a long time.
had the dance pract after service,
left early to spend ME-time.
had meaningful familytime today.
gonna doing hwrk now!

have a pretty or-cheh on my bum

morning quiet time was nice;
enjoyed spending the time amidst
relaxing atmosphere.

sports!
with the girls: denise, elisabeth,
sylvia, xiaoyuan, tingshu, xinling,
tricia, xueyi, qilin, ME!
1. netball
haha, hard to grasp the techniques
of the game but xueyi was really
patient in teaching us. =]
2. basketball
o0oh, tough one. it's physically
rather demanding, but enjoyable
anyway. SAVE for the part
where i tried to get the ball and
due to inertia i couldnt stop
even after i was out of the
boundaries of the court, causing
a trip and fall. ugh. >.<
an thankful, though, that i landed
smack BETWEEN the lamppost
and the other metal box,
on my bum.
would've hurt myself pretty bad
otherwise. =\

mobility lesson was interesting.
we got a glimpse of what someone
who has visual-impairment experiences.
in pairs we took turns to be
blindfolded, and i must say,
communication is key!
the therapeutic relationship
between ot and client was emphasized.

sports again!
spent some time playing tabletennis
and then squash after.
the former required much control,
the latter was more for destressing.
haha, a nice way to conclude
the study week. =]

wow, the first post of the year comes in JULY!

heh.

its been long since i last updated.
perhaps it'll be long, too, before my next.

God's been good to me!

have enrolled into the course i want,
have found myself placed amongst
great and encouraging classmates,
have been doing okay in the tests
(although i want to improve).

have been learning alot during cell,
have been improving on the bass guit,
have been refreshed at the recent family camp.

have tried/started to be more sensitive
to the feelings of others,
have renewed certain meaningful friendships,
have made some people smile.

yup,
i'm definitely under God's watchful eye.

AM BLESSED. =]
