well, it's not that nothing's been going on in my life but, heh.. yeah.. no time no time no time to blog!! haha. *squints* why am i FINALLY here?
#1. it's the holidays larh..
#2. the event i'm gonna blog about really impacted me..
#3. okay larh.. too many people saying that i owe my blog a spring clean.. haha..
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
alright.. here goes(mind me if i'm a little rusty):
time flies! and it's now the holidays and SFC Leadership Training Camp 2006 is over! can you believe it?!! all the planning that took place over the one month plus, over it just four days? yeah.. one thing's for sure, is that i had fun.. hope everything was worthwhile for everyone else too..
the camp.
basically, it was a real tiring ordeal for those in the planning committee.. i just play a small role – Worship IC, and already average a sleep-time of 1hour plus? imagine what about the Camp Commandant and the Events IC.. i bet they didn't even get half an hour on some nights! but, yeah.. more about the events that took place..
one must-mention is the bean-picking..
during my batch, we had to find red beans in the field, blindfolded when actually, there weren't ANY at all! didn't help that what we actually got were bits of soil, and sometimes bugs too.. *squints* people during the bean-picking:
there was one of the j1s who probably didn't listen to the instructions so while everyone was on their knees or on their bums searching for the beans with their hands, this blur bum was plainly walking around, shuffling the blur bum's feet! was quite puzzled and let that blur bum do so for more than an hour until i couldn't 'ta-han' anymore so Daniel and i went up to that blur bum and he asked that blur bum if she wanted to give up(because at the 1-hr mark, we announced the option to give up if they were tired.. btw, their aim was supposed to collectively find 12beans, so it was a group effort, not an individual one!), and surprisingly the blur bum immediately said yes. then we asked why, so that blur bum said that since the blur bum already wasn't looking for the beans anyway, so that blur bum sort of might as well give up.. i was taken aback so i asked that blur bum how the blur bum intended to find anything with the blur bum's feet but that blur bum didn't really give an answer but after that the blur bum finally decided to stay on the track instead..
another funny(or maybe cruel)-to-watch was one of the guys who were really tired from the start of the activity.. and while i watched him from a distance, i saw him squatting and trying to feel on the ground but every half a minute or so, he'd nod off and kinda collapse on the rubber ground.. it showed me that he was at least trying, so i was encouraged by his attitude of perseverance.. *:)*
well, after 1hr of them having to work without ANY form communication, we gave them the option to throw in the towel, and meanwhile, for the remaining on the track, we would pretend to either be encouragers or discouragers.. so we would go up to the blindfolded j1s and whisper into their ear messages like "jia you, don't give up" or "aiyah.. sit here so long, still cannot find anything, give up larh".. haha.. this aspect was one that the seniors did not do to us, so for those people that we DID encourage(whether directly or indirectly), it was heartening to see them really trying their best on the field.. *:)*
yup! so much for that activity.. (that night i only slept half an hour! *squints*) the amazing race I&II was pretty good.. station games also, could really see some of the teams bonding while doing all the icky stuff together.. and oh, the telematch went on well too.. haha.. :) mmm.. activities that eventually got cancelled:
1. the interrogation..
in the end, we played a really watered-down, less serious/scary version called Bible-Smugglers.. the aim was to transport as many Bibles as they could, in a foreign land(the school compounds) to two missionaries, Jayce & Anna.. the other j2s were local guards who were supposed to stop/chase the suspicious fleeing j1s who were holding plastic spoons as representations of the Bible, and ask them what they were doing with the book.. we could scold them, question them about what the book was for, who their God was, and why we should believe in their God.. if ever we were dissatisfied with their answers, we could confiscate their Bible and send them to "prison" where the prison guards would make them do funny forfeits like star jumps, i think.. haha.. yup.. was fun for both the j1s and the j2s.. *:)*
2. the solo night walk..
well, this is a pretty long story.. actually, the route was pretty much planned already.. it was going to be on a scary dark trail, from school, between alleys and even passing by a crematorium! so the night before the actual event, some of the jc2s and one of our cca teachers went to do last minute familiarising with the route and changing some of the positions of the j2 "watchers".. when we completed the trail, we were walking pretty fast and reached the end in about two hours.. imagine if the jc1s were afraid and walked slowly? that would have taken them a whole lot more time! well, anyway, it was really a journey lacking of much light and through some of the back alleys of the private housing, there were some fierce dogs and those ancestral altars that kinda gave some people the creeps.. but since i was just so tired, i didn't really let fear get the better of me.. haha..
well, the turning point of the walk was when we were reaching the end mark, all the way at Mount Vernon, at the gates of a cemetery on a hill..
there were supposed to be the last two jc2s stationed there to bring in the jc1s who had been successful in completing the solo night walk.. but the teacher was concerned that there wasn't a shelter there and if it rained, how were the j1s supposed to be stationed there.. so he and Jem(Jeremy Quek) and Janice went up the hill and found a sheltered area in front of a church with a toilet, beside a cemetery.. it was a spooky thought but he asked that the jc2s try the road up one by one.. i was tired and was singing a Christian song on my way up.. heh.. couldn't really see where to go and i almost walked towards the funeral parlour! *squints* Janice, Yvonne and i went to have a shower first.. by the time we came back to the dorm, the lights were surprisingly on and we found out that one of us who had gone on the dry run had fallen off the bed and was having fits.. it was quite terrifying because she screamed when she fell with a thud and the back of her head had a bruise.. so while the teachers and mentors were getting help, all the rest could do was to watch and pray, or hold her down when she was having the fits so that she would not hurt herself..
when the ambulance came, we kinda were a little relieved.. at least she could get proper medical help.. did you know that when a person has fits, you're not supposed to put anything into the person's mouth? he/she could choke.. yeah.. umm.. anyway, after that, some of the girls in my dorm and some from the next one were shaken and we had an impromptu prayer meeting at LT1.. i was really really sleepy but i still joined them.. i fell asleep a few times(most embarrassingly) but heard some of the sharing..
well, won't go into detail but basically, the main thing i learnt is that we, as Christians must not be afraid of these things because in Jesus' name, we have the power to overcome the evil one.. also, as my mum said when i shared it with her, is that it's not advisable to go to this kinda places, especially when you are not spiritually grounded on God, because you never know whose territory that is.. i believe SAJC is safe.. i'm glad that SFC did the Prayer Walk to dedicate the school to God and claim the building for Him.. *:)- also, as the mentors shared, we must be grounded in God and not allow these fears to enter..
well, so much for the super long portion about the camp’s activities.. the last bit was the one which held the most learning points for me.. *:)*
oh, it was a real pity that i missed the finale? haha.. i never did find out who my angel was because i left early.. anyway, i'm also kinda ashamed that i wasn’t the best angel i could have been.. was wishing that my mortal would reply but she didn’t so i sorta forgot she was even there? very bad of me.. *tsk tsk tsk*
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
okay.. if my tenses and the way i'm writing sounds weird, it's actually because i'm too lazy to write out a long post so the above's an exerpt of a letter i wrote to a friend about the camp.. heh.. yups..
aiight.. i gotta go.. any other people who wanna share with me their experiences/complaints/the-good-stuff that happened at camp? let me know, yeah.. the camp is i help plan one lorh.. haha.. bye! *:)*
