Friday 13/04/07

outing with 3/4 of my girls.. :))

changed my layout!

heh. although i haven't really gotten sick of the previous one yet,
i decided that my blog needed a new face.

not sure if it's very 'me' but anyway, just for randomness,
i like the fact that i sleep with two pillows.

one goes under my head (as does most of those that belong to others)
and the other's for hugging/making sure i don't fall off the side of my bed.

i understand that my tagboard's not the prettiest,
but it's really difficult to find just the right colour that matches the rest of the layout.

oh well.
pretty or not,
you've gotta like it.

Something Eventful/Interesting

the past two days were busybusy days for me..
it was the St Marg's Pri Sch's 165th Anniversary,
and my Church being the affiliated chaplaincy,
planned a Charity Golf Tournament
with some other people from the St Andrew's Cathedral..

my thursday afternoon-evening was spent
helping pack the goodie bags for the golfers..
the small room where some other volunteers
from my Church and i were packing the stuff
looked like a factory line!

it was something like this:

#1. open bag, pass it down the chain
#2. dump in a carton of orange juice, pass it down the chain
#3. drop in a tin of corned beef*, pass it down the chain
#4. put in a box of cream crackers, pass it down the chain
#5. the oregon fresh potato crisps, pass it down the chain
#6. miaomiao chilli chips, pass it down the chain
#7. the facial wash(?!!), pass it down the chain
#8. throw in the sarahjessicaparker-spokesperson hair shampoo/conditioner sample, pass it down the chain
#9. the hair vitamin capsules, pass it down the chain
#10. slide in the little things that hold up golf balls (golf ball holders?)on the green, pass it down the chain
#11. also, the same kinda stuff but meant for the sand, pass it down the chain
#12. release the smint breath fresheners into the bag, pass it down the chain
#13. the chupachups shirt (haha), pass it down the chain
#14. the chupachups cap (double haha), pass it down the chain
#15. squish in the face towel, pass it down the chain

where it is FINALLY brought aside for storage
before the rest of the perishables come in the next day for packing-
a loaf of sunshine bread and a gardenia bread bun.

maaan, was it a goodie bag, or a pack of food rations!
the manpower shortage on thursday meant that each person had to take two or three items at one time along the 'production line'!!

ANYWAY, it was fun.. :))

* did you know that corned beef does NOT contain any corn at all?!!
i'm serious! do you feel cheated? :P
it's actually something like minced/luncheon meat.
haha. have not tried it but now that i've got a tin (the helpers were given a goodie bag each yesterday from the leftovers. haha, all our hard work, eh?), i'll ask mummy to cook something with it!

oh! well, that was thursday..
Friday was funner..
'Laine & I were in charge of selling raffle tickets to raise funds for the school.
so at the tables where people came,
they'd first go to the payment counter,
then the registration counter to collect their locker keys and golf score card.

and just before they collect their goodie bag,
we were to:
"hi/goodafternoon, here's your programme sheet (flash a grin).
would you like to buy an extra lucky draw ticket?
the money goes to the Saint Margaret's School.
It's only ten dollars apiece!(smile)"

if they say no, i'd go:
"'salright, then. (smile) thank you and have a great game! (smile)"

until after i saw learnt from 'Laine how to handle those who turn her down:
"oh, come on, it's for charity! (flash another grin)"
and she usually gets her the ticket sold.

or if the person says yes to one ticket, she'd go:
"thank you! how about three or more? (grin)"
"maybe you could buy the last few tickets in this booklet? [she doesn't mention that that's only one of the manymany booklets we have] (flash a big grin)"

MAN, she's pretty persuasive!
haha.. and boy, it was effective!
uh, and that's why we managed to raise the full $800
from the sale of raffle tickets in less than 2 and a half hours. *beams*

was really tiring, though..
it was a warm afternoon and there was no wind!
perfect for the golfers, i presume,
but bad for us who had to be at the warm registration area. *bleah*

anyway, after that, lunch was provided..

then we had to pack the goodie bags for the St Margs girls who were performing during the dinner in the evening.

the SMPS Choir (oh, they were really adorable. angellic voices.)
and the SMSS Band (a pity, they were outside the ballroom so it seemed they were unappreciated)

after that, we had some time to rest while the golfers were flagged off..
some went shopping during the break
('cos the golfers were having their game and there was nothing to do)
but my parents and i went home to prepare for the evening.

two hours later, we were back at the RCC,
in the ballroom where the prizes we labelled the day before were kept.

'Laine and i were given the task of asking people to watch their step as they arrived for the dinner, opening the doors for the guest of honour, selling the St Margs bears ($40 each) and books that a old girl from the school wrote ($30 each), helping to give out the flowers of appreciation to the important people, helping to distribute the golf tournament and lucky draw prizes, bringing in the bottles of wine during the dinner.

talk about 'Sye Kung' Warriors!
we didn't get to sit and eat a proper meal! haha.

anyway, the coolest thing was that during the dinner
-when i actually got to sit down-
i was seated beside Vivien Tan aka the deejay and television host.
she's really pretty and friendly.
really sweet of her to help 'Laine and i take food when the dishes came and went and we were still trying to sell the bears/books.
but besides being so nice,
she's also a really fun emcee!
pity i didn't have time to take a photo with her.

yeah, so that's really what i've been up to the past two days..
now it's time for me to study!
off the com you go, girl..

and oh! i just checked back with mum a few minutes ago,
and i'm having fried rice with corned beef for dinner today. :P

an outing with my girls.. :))
uh, minus my NeighHeyHey, though.. :S

supposed to celebrate a belatedBELATED Linda's birthday.
YESS!! it was in SEPTEMBER LAST YEAR!

uh, anyway, Mel, LaLa & i arranged to meet at TiongBahru Plaza an hour before we met Linda..
the intention was to buy her present first!

uh, heh..
but things didn't really turn out as planned.. :P

arrangements by Mel
Meeting Place: outside URS Inc. [uhh.. huh?]
Meeting Time: 1100hours when shops are open [oh, okay..]

what the ever-so-intelligent me did
Reached: the MRT station ['cos i wasn't sure where that place was. >.<]
At: 1000hours [a WHOLE HOUR earlier. >.<]
oh, well.. so it doesn't take 1hour to reach the place from where i'm staying.
actually, not even half.
bleah~

uh, better early than late, right?

goodness, i can't believe i was walking aimlessly around the whole MRT area..
later venturing to the plaza..
and less than 40% of the shops were open too.. :S

worst of all, i was alone.

ugh. so bored out,
i walked the fourth storey twice,
the third thrice,
the second thrice,
the first once (or twice, i can't remember)
and the basement (leading all the way to the MRT station) thrice.

eventually 1100hours came
and LaLa arrived!

she window-shopped with me at
-get this-
Popular!

uh, heh..
i needed to buy stuff for my sister..
but we also walked around looking at
all the pretty colours and adorable knickknacks there..

and Mel was late.
haha..
she woke up at TEN!
but 'sokay..
i had my LaLa to accompany me. :))

when Mel came
we walked round and round and round
the whole plaza again..

digressed from getting Linda's gift/card
to looking at diamond-studded bra straps
and cookie monster CD cases
and ittybitty sparkling tiaras
and brightly coloured shoelaces
and plastic figurines of pretty-boys
and interesting keychains and charms
and filling our growling tummies with octopusham&cheese balls.

and then twelve o'clock came.
and went.

and twelve o'five came.
and went.

and twelve o'ten came.
and went.

[*crickets chirping* where was Linda?]

and Mel had to go withdraw some money

and twelve o'fifteen came.
and went.

and Mel had already gotten her money.

and twelve o'twenty came.

[by this time, we were SO bored out,
LaLa & Mel started listening to me telling them
the exciting (hardyhaha.)
juicy (NOT!!!)
details of my lovelife.]

[now can you see how bored we were?]

and there, that girl walked up to us grinning.
haha. talk about a grand entrance! :P

took us AGES to decide where to have lunch.
eventually went up to the third fourth floor
to have some jap thai foodcourt western food.

spent more of our time there catching up

and making lotsa noise

than we did eating.

and right after we filled our tummies (i was so full!)
we decided to take neoprints.
heh.
o0okayy.. :P

laughed till my belly ached. :D
was really lotsa fun. :))

we went into the arcade!!
and mostly played that air-puck thing..
haha.. four games, was it?
Linda & i versus Mel & LaLa..
and the underdogs emerged champs!
(uh, that means my team won.. :P)
wootz! :D

window-shopped again!

shoes (girlyshoes. :S)
fancy hairbands (i use only plain ones!)
posters of more pretty boyband boys (eww.)
shoelaces! (for my sake, they went into the shop. :D)
hair curlers/straightners (finally, the present. >.<)

and it was time for more food.
uh, we certaintly didn't need to
but we just had to have some
MosBurgerTea & ShilinChicken & VeneziaIcecream.

okay Linda, tomorrow we diet!
haha. okay, maybe the day after? :P

oh, well.. hanging out with my girls is ALWAYS alotta fun.. :))

and oh, did i forget to mention that Linda & i got our brows trimmed?
haha. eww. so girly.
but it was interesting anyway.

o0oh, i feel like a bimbo.
who kinda overspent and busted her wallet. :P

headache.

grr.

oh, well..
anyway, something to look forward to:
i'm meeting my girl friends tomorrow.. :))

Wednesday, April 11, 2007

i got a haircut today! >.<

ew.
heh.
think i look really weird.
my fringe's so short!
although the back's still pretty much okay.
aiight...
i should really stop complaining.
just be glad that i have hair!
haha.
life's good. :))

reflection on my Maundy Thursday.

i fell asleep.
grr.
for the third year in a row,
i fell asleep.

well, before anyone calls me lousy
let me tell you the situation.

for the past three years now,
Maundy Thursday is commemorated with
an overnight prayer.

so it starts around 11pm (those on duty come before 10pm)
and we have Praise&Worship Sessions and Prayer Sessions,
four cycles of them, ending the whole event at 6am on Good Friday.

at each prayer session, we pray for different important things.
for example, the first session we took time to pray for
- family & self
- nation & leaders
- neighbouring countries

oh! something special during the first session
is the stripping of the altar.
it's a significant event
'cos during/before the crucifiction of Jesus on the cross
the veils in the Holy Temple were stripped.
that was to mark that from then on,
Christians need not go through priests to present requests to God.
now there's direct access through Jesus Christ.
it's really cool for me that this year,
the reality of the history of events
had meant something to me. :))

i remember the rest of the sessions focussed on the Church, such as
- church members
- Men's & Women's Ministries
- Agape Children, Youth, Young Adults, Young Working Adults Ministries
- Worship & Sound Ministries (where i'm involved in doing backup, multimedia & the PA system)
- Filipino Fellowship & SMPS Chaplaincy
i think they're more but i can't recall them now.

anyway, this year
although i still didn't hold out till the end of everything,
i think i improved a little.

i remember the in the past two years
i was usually knocked out by the end of the third session!
and i was just a student then!

this year, i only gave in to the calls of dreamland
nearing the end of the fourth session.
a great accomplishment, okay!
considering i went to work as usual
(which is more tiring than going to school, i think..)

so there.
even if i DID fall asleep,
i didn't do too bad, right?
rightrightright?

i'm officially unemployed. :P

my last day of work was thursday.
the whole day passed by pretty fast.
before i knew it it was lunch time!
Sharon, Shawn, Fiona, Mandy, JenVern, Eric, Abraham & me.
went out for a meal at some place near the CPF building, i think.
heh. got lost cos i didn't know directions. bleah~
really nice of Fiona (pronounce "Fee-yon-ner" not "Fee-yo-naaaaa") to treat me to a strawberry smoothie.
i like! :D
reached office, Sally had bought me a slice of cake!
LinMei gave me a wallet (really sorry, but i don't think i see myself using the girly thing in the near future :S).
and some of the people i'm closer to bought like, a few delicious cupcakes for me!
shared some with my colleagues, ate one and brought home two for my family.
went for Maundy Thursday at Church not long after, but that's for another post.. :))

update on the education aspect of my life

praying for what i’m going to do for my tertiary education.
(yes, i still do not know)

one part of me really wants to get into this particular course.
but if that’s not part of His plan yet, i’m not gonna push it.
if all efforts end up with an unsuccessful application,
i won’t be too disappointed.
‘cos the experience that i went through
during the process of applying for it
taught me a great deal
and i’m really just so grateful for my family.
(and i can also just retake some exams and apply with a better grade)

heh, i don’t wanna talk too much about what i’m applying for yet
‘cos what i rather write is a praise report
when my prayers are answered.
*smiles*

last day of work:
TOMORROW.

so fast and it's been almost four months.
today's the second last day of work.
and so i decided to wear contact lenses instead of specs.
heh. was it a good decision?

anyway, it was kinda funny ‘cos
my supervisor told me i look blur without my specs.
haha. perhaps.
haven't been without my specs since prom, see.
that's probably why i look (and feel) kinda stoned.

well, it’s my last day tomorrow.
a guy asked me out for lunch!
whee~

aiight, it was just my supervisor.
(who is already attached, mind youme)
and it’s probably a corporate thing.
haha.
that was written just for the suspense of my blog readers.
(right. as if i have that many. :P)

sigh~
i'm gonna miss working there.
i’ve been really blessed
with a great working environment,
friendly colleagues,
reasonable pay.

but oh, well.
some change is good.

Come Home Running - Chris Tomlin

oh ♥ of mine
why must you stray
from one so fair
you ran away
and one more time
you have to pay
the heaviness
of needless shame

oh ♥ of mine
come back home
you've been too long
out on your own
and He's been there
all along
watching for
you down the road

chorus:
so come home running
His arms are open wide
His name is Jesus
He understands
He is the answer
you are looking for
so come home running
just as you are

oh child of God
so dearly loved
and ransomed by
the Saviour's blood
called by name
daughter and son
clothed in the robe
of righteousness

beautiful lyrics.
heard the song last friday when i went back for SAJC's Life Concert 2007.
my sister got the tickets from my friend and, yeah.
beautiful lyrics. :))
