Something Eventful/Interesting

the past two days were busybusy days for me..
it was the St Marg's Pri Sch's 165th Anniversary,
and my Church being the affiliated chaplaincy,
planned a Charity Golf Tournament
with some other people from the St Andrew's Cathedral..

my thursday afternoon-evening was spent
helping pack the goodie bags for the golfers..
the small room where some other volunteers
from my Church and i were packing the stuff
looked like a factory line!

it was something like this:

#1. open bag, pass it down the chain
#2. dump in a carton of orange juice, pass it down the chain
#3. drop in a tin of corned beef*, pass it down the chain
#4. put in a box of cream crackers, pass it down the chain
#5. the oregon fresh potato crisps, pass it down the chain
#6. miaomiao chilli chips, pass it down the chain
#7. the facial wash(?!!), pass it down the chain
#8. throw in the sarahjessicaparker-spokesperson hair shampoo/conditioner sample, pass it down the chain
#9. the hair vitamin capsules, pass it down the chain
#10. slide in the little things that hold up golf balls (golf ball holders?)on the green, pass it down the chain
#11. also, the same kinda stuff but meant for the sand, pass it down the chain
#12. release the smint breath fresheners into the bag, pass it down the chain
#13. the chupachups shirt (haha), pass it down the chain
#14. the chupachups cap (double haha), pass it down the chain
#15. squish in the face towel, pass it down the chain

where it is FINALLY brought aside for storage
before the rest of the perishables come in the next day for packing-
a loaf of sunshine bread and a gardenia bread bun.

maaan, was it a goodie bag, or a pack of food rations!
the manpower shortage on thursday meant that each person had to take two or three items at one time along the 'production line'!!

ANYWAY, it was fun.. :))

* did you know that corned beef does NOT contain any corn at all?!!
i'm serious! do you feel cheated? :P
it's actually something like minced/luncheon meat.
haha. have not tried it but now that i've got a tin (the helpers were given a goodie bag each yesterday from the leftovers. haha, all our hard work, eh?), i'll ask mummy to cook something with it!

oh! well, that was thursday..
Friday was funner..
'Laine & I were in charge of selling raffle tickets to raise funds for the school.
so at the tables where people came,
they'd first go to the payment counter,
then the registration counter to collect their locker keys and golf score card.

and just before they collect their goodie bag,
we were to:
"hi/goodafternoon, here's your programme sheet (flash a grin).
would you like to buy an extra lucky draw ticket?
the money goes to the Saint Margaret's School.
It's only ten dollars apiece!(smile)"

if they say no, i'd go:
"'salright, then. (smile) thank you and have a great game! (smile)"

until after i saw learnt from 'Laine how to handle those who turn her down:
"oh, come on, it's for charity! (flash another grin)"
and she usually gets her the ticket sold.

or if the person says yes to one ticket, she'd go:
"thank you! how about three or more? (grin)"
"maybe you could buy the last few tickets in this booklet? [she doesn't mention that that's only one of the manymany booklets we have] (flash a big grin)"

MAN, she's pretty persuasive!
haha.. and boy, it was effective!
uh, and that's why we managed to raise the full $800
from the sale of raffle tickets in less than 2 and a half hours. *beams*

was really tiring, though..
it was a warm afternoon and there was no wind!
perfect for the golfers, i presume,
but bad for us who had to be at the warm registration area. *bleah*

anyway, after that, lunch was provided..

then we had to pack the goodie bags for the St Margs girls who were performing during the dinner in the evening.

the SMPS Choir (oh, they were really adorable. angellic voices.)
and the SMSS Band (a pity, they were outside the ballroom so it seemed they were unappreciated)

after that, we had some time to rest while the golfers were flagged off..
some went shopping during the break
('cos the golfers were having their game and there was nothing to do)
but my parents and i went home to prepare for the evening.

two hours later, we were back at the RCC,
in the ballroom where the prizes we labelled the day before were kept.

'Laine and i were given the task of asking people to watch their step as they arrived for the dinner, opening the doors for the guest of honour, selling the St Margs bears ($40 each) and books that a old girl from the school wrote ($30 each), helping to give out the flowers of appreciation to the important people, helping to distribute the golf tournament and lucky draw prizes, bringing in the bottles of wine during the dinner.

talk about 'Sye Kung' Warriors!
we didn't get to sit and eat a proper meal! haha.

anyway, the coolest thing was that during the dinner
-when i actually got to sit down-
i was seated beside Vivien Tan aka the deejay and television host.
she's really pretty and friendly.
really sweet of her to help 'Laine and i take food when the dishes came and went and we were still trying to sell the bears/books.
but besides being so nice,
she's also a really fun emcee!
pity i didn't have time to take a photo with her.

yeah, so that's really what i've been up to the past two days..
now it's time for me to study!
off the com you go, girl..

and oh! i just checked back with mum a few minutes ago,
and i'm having fried rice with corned beef for dinner today. :P
